Knowledge Distribution Service
From Seed
Our ring is called the Knowledge Distribution Service, to reflect our love for knowledge, and our wish to share it with our fellow colonists. We believe that the key to success is not brute strength or blind trial and error - it is the understanding of all the aspects of the problem that leads to the solution. It is our dream, that one day our understanding of ourselves, the planet and the universe around us, will be so great, that we can lift ourselves above what we are now - to face even greater challenges, to experience higher experiences, to finally truly exist alongside the universe.
Like all utopistic dreams, however, this will hardly happen tomorrow. On the timeframe of the next few years and decades, we'll be focusing on the following goals:
1) Improving tower-wide communication. This is important to keep everything running smoothly in the tower. 2) Replacing, or fixing, TAU to secure our survival and gain crusial knowledge. 3) Gathering of knowledge. Done by starting research and keeping an eye on the happenings in the tower. This is important to understand our current situation and where we can go from here.
Our three main goals are derived from the main goals of the original rings.
We will achieve these goals by doing the following (not limited to this list):
- Continuing to host the Panel discussions, working closely with the DaVinci News for All ezime, organizing meetings and otherwise facilitating the information flow. - Starting to map large potions of the tower, to find out how it is built and how TAU interacts with each section of the tower. Understanding how, and why, TAU is doing what it currently does will improve our chances to find a solution to our current situation. - Reaching the space station. The space station may hold vital information about the planet or our mission that can help us. - As soon as possible, starting research on many fields. Including improved tools, medicine and the human genetics.
We believe that it is important to keep all options open in our current situation. We do not believe that holding on to archaic beliefs or principles, set forever in stone, will take us very far. We do not, however, believe that rushing headstrong into un-explored scientific fields will do us any good either. Taking it slow and considering all options and possibilities is very important before doing anything radical.
Our opinions on some of the major issues:
- Terraforming: We believe that terraforming is a very valid option. However, so far terraforming has only brought more problems and has not done us any good so far. Only after more research is done will we decide on whether or not this is a good option for us.
- The lower cluster: We believe that communications is very important and therefore we support getting in contact with the lower cluster. Only after gaining access to the other clusters will we be able to gather all the needed knowledge and information about TAU and the tower itself.
- Genetic modification of humans: We believe this is also a valid option, and might greatly improve our chances of survival against unknown disease etc. However, we also know that a solid understanding of the possible outcomes and consequences is important before taking action. We will commence research on this field when we can but will not do anything radical before we are certain we have full understanding of the field.
We will be seen in many places in the tower. We will start administration of admin bits to improve our chances of success and the production of the tools we require.
We will strive to share what we learn with the rest of the tower and will be happy to work together with other rings who may share our goals. We will offer our insight in many of the technical, scientific, and political aspects of the life in the Tower, and are eager to spread the word on important projects.
We are, naturally, always looking for new talents to fill our ranks. We're especially interested in researchers of all fields, as well as people interested in investigative journalism, or writing in general. But we're not turning our backs on more technical matters either - what good is knowledge if you can't do anything with it? So we're also looking for producers to produce the things we invent, as well as repairers to keep our facilities in top condition.
So whether you're interested in membership or a different kind of cooperation, please feel free to contact one of us.

((In addition, we are a role-playing ring. That means all members must be willing to follow these general guidelines:
1) Speak in-character most of the time. If you occasionally need to talk about "bugs", "NPCs", "the game" and such, you should use the appropriate indicators (brackets or "OOC:").
2) Separate character emotions from player emotions. That means, if another character offends your character, you won't take offence as a player. (You may, however, see that the other character pays dearly for said offence.)
3) Enjoy the roleplay aspect. This is the most important rule.))
